Date published: 15 June 2015

The Class of 2015 at Whitworth Community High School was wished a fond farewell as Year 11 students spent their last full day in school.

Several shed tears as they watched a PowerPoint montage of their time at Whitworth.

Headteacher Gill Middlemas said: “They are a fantastic group of young people who have been at the forefront of all the improvements we have made in school, leading the way and they have been great role models.

“I look forward to seeing them at the school prom and sharing their successes with them in the future.”

A special celebration cake was made by maths teacher Louise Casey, whose hobby is cake making and who runs her own ‘mini business’ Casey’s Cakes. She said: “I have made quite a few cakes for people in school – including one when we had our party for our ‘Good’ Ofsted report.”

Leavers are hoping to go into a variety of different careers and for 16-year-old Holly Simkins she has plans to become a games designer. “One day I hope to have my own digital entertainment business,” she said.

“I am going on to study game design at Oldham College. I have enjoyed my time at Whitworth and I have met some really lovely people and some absolutely wonderful teachers.

“I came from a very small school, Sharneyford, and it was good to go to a relatively small high school. It has been a pleasure to be here for the last five years.”

For Daniel Bethell, 15, he will be going up in the world for the next few months until he starts ‘A’ Levels including Maths at Holy Cross in Bury.

He explained: “I work for my dad who has a company in Manchester that carries out maintenance on skyscrapers.

“The highest building I have worked on was 25 storeys and I helped to change a broken window.”

Zoe Wright has still to decide between Rochdale 6th Form College and Holy Cross to study Music, Maths and psychology ‘A’ levels and hopes to be a music Therapist for children with Autism. Zoe said: “I have loved my time at Whitworth especially the great sense of support from staff and students, you never feel completely on your own.”

For Lee Waugh, he will be going to Rochdale 6th Form College to study ‘A’ Levels including Biology, PE and Psychology and hopes to be a Physiotherapist, he said: “The best thing about my time at Whitworth is all the students know each other no matter what year group you are in.”

Caitlin Chippendale will be studying Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Further Maths at Rochdale 6th Form College and said: “Year 11 has been a great experience, a year to be at the top of the school and to take on lots of responsibilities as a student, becoming a role model and leading the student body.”
