Building Proposals update

Thank you to those parents and carers who attended the second consultation meeting with the Local Authority and myself on Wednesday to provide an update on the developments in the various projects.

The issues raised were extremely useful and will support the planning process for the temporary demountable classroom, the extension to the current building and the plans for the Redwood Education and Enterprise Centre (REEC) all which will start in September 2015.

A further meeting will be held before the end of term for parents and carers of those students who will be located at the REEC to discuss all aspects of the programme including transport, facilities, programmes and staffing to support the students. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any issues on these proposals.

Transition and Health and Well Being activities

Year 6 students took part in the Sports Transition programme for September. Key Stage 4 students have also had the pleasure of doing some cross curricular work with Claire Cashmore, who described her journey to become a top athlete. This is part of the Sky Sports Athletes into schools programmes and what a fantastic opportunity for students and staff alike!

A group of Post 16 students and staff will take part in a residential to Rhodes. I know everybody will have a fantastic time and what a wonderful opportunity for the students to sample life in a different culture! Enjoy and I wish I was coming with you!

Health and Well Being Awards evening

Please remember that this special evening will take place on Thursday 9 July at 7pm at the Gracie Fields Theatre and will be an opportunity to share the successes of the whole school in a variety of awards, sports related and achievements of the entire school population.

KS3

Steven from Hamer Boxing Club in Rochdale works in partnership with RMBC, Link 4 Life, Rochdale Connections Trust, Early Break and NHS has been attending Redwood on Thursday afternoons to teach a group of students the art of Boxing. Steven is a specialist boxing tutor registered by the ABA to run non-contact boxing. Students listened well to instructions and have behaved remarkably; Steven has taught them that boxing is a sport and should not be used for “fighting outside of a ring”. Self –discipline, awareness and control is one of the key element s in boxing. Some of the focuses that boxing delivers is for behaviour/anger management, low self-esteem, motivational techniques, team working, weight control and general fitness.
