Prizes and certificates will be awarded over the next few days and the winning designs are displayed in the Art Barn. Many Thanks for all your wonderful designs. Mrs Hamilton

PE News

The Year 10 Rounders team completed in the Rochdale Schools tournament with the hope of achieving the league and cup double. The evening started well with a great win over a strong Oulder Hill team.

Hollingworth proved a more stern test and following some excellent fielding and hitting from both teams, St Cuthberts were beaten 8.5-8 rounders. There was no disgrace in second place finish which has seen this team go from strength to strength this year with some exceptional results. Well done girls on a fantastic season.

Congratulations to all athletes who took part in the Greater Manchester School’s Catholic Cup Athletics Competitions.

There were some outstanding performances all round. In particular, N. Clarke in year 7 who threw 15.50 metres in the girls discus, and M Murekatete who jumped 5.58m in the boys long jump. The Year 10 and 11 girls took gold place overall all after an impressive performance. P Diba and N Mukambilwa took great pleasure in lifting the trophy one last time. Well done to all athletes!

Science News

On Friday 26 June year 8 science club students attended the Rochdale Science and Technology Challenge Day at Bolton University.

Activities included building strong bridges and fast cars; programming robots and using an efit programme which the police use to profile suspected criminals.

Congratulations to our budding biologists in Year 9 and Year 10 who have taken part in the Society of Biology’s ‘Biology Challenge’.

The following pupils achieved one of the top three scores in their Year group. Year 10 – J Maloney, H Russell, H Peel and Year 9 – C Gollop, D Roberts, N Molokwu. Well done to all.

‘5-2-7’ Open Evening

On Thursday 9 July St Cuthbert’s will be open to all Year 5 students from all of the local Primary Schools. We will be open from 5pm-7pm. You will be able to take a tour of the school, meet current staff and students as well as take part in some exciting activities! Please contact the school for more information.

Jubilee Tea Party

St Cuthbert's pupils hosted a Jubilee Afternoon Tea Party in the Cuisine for 40 members of our local parishes. Guests were treated to a traditional afternoon tea and were entertained by pupils singing, bingo, a raffle and even a St Cuthbert's quiz. Guests were also given a piece of special Jubilee cake made by Mrs Russell to take home.

Pupils rose to the occasion by making sure that guests were made very welcome and were wonderful ambassadors for our school.

Springhill Hospice School’s Project

We are honoured that St Cuthbert's is the first high school in Rochdale to be asked by Springhill Hospice to take part in their Schools' Project.

The aim of the project is for pupils to learn about the work of the hospice by having the opportunity to spend time with patients from the Day Hospice. Although many pupils expressed an interest in taking part in the project, there were only 4 places available to Year 11 pupils who have finished their exams.

The project is taking place each Monday morning at Springhill Hospice over a 4 week period. Pupils have been paired with a Day Hospice patient to act as a buddy whilst they work together on an art project.

The real value of the project however is the enjoyment each person gets out of working together and getting to know each other.

In the final session, pupils will be asked to give a short talk to the Hospice Management Team about their experience as a buddy and what they have gained.

Butterfly Farm Project

The butterflies are here! Two have hatched and have been named. Our Year 7 ‘butterfly’ keepers have fed them and they are being well looked after! We’ll find out their names next week.
