Pennine Springhill Athletics

On 1 July year 5 and 6 pupils took part in the annual Springhill Athletics. We won the under 10s relay and were joint winners overall. Well done all who took part.

Football- we won the B team league and our A team very narrowly lost on penalties, one.

Our Netball team performed very well too.

Ofsted Inspection 3 and 4 June 2015

Our school was inspected on 3 and 4 June. We sent out the full report and a summary letter. We were so delighted to have such a great report and many parents have congratulated us.

We have now been nominated as one of the 6 most improved schools in the North West for our practice, especially in English. We are to be featured in a national government publication and we are so proud and thrilled!! The publication ‘Government Initiatives IQ’ will be published soon and sent to all primary schools in England

Improvements to the School building and site

We are pleased to announce that during the summer holidays the ‘Youth Service’ area of the school, (also known as the ‘South Block’) will be demolished. We are currently negotiating for this to be extra car parking space. The courtyard that currently operates as a play area for the After school, and Breakfast clubs- the Lion Club- and for Borough Buddies every lunchtime, will be securely fenced in. We will let you know any further details as soon as we ourselves are given the information.

Staffing 2015-16

I informed you in an earlier newsletter that we bid farewell with our grateful thanks to Mrs Howard who is going to be a Deputy Headteacher and Miss Holden who is moving to a Manchester school. Mrs Yeomans who is a member of support staff is going for a change of career to become a librarian. Mrs Dawber who is also a member of the support staff is leaving to train as a teacher. Miss Dixon has decided after 15 years here to move for promotion to her former primary school in Bury. We wish them all the best and thank them for their amazing conribution to our success, their commitment and hard work.
Ms Bowler will be joining us in January as Assistant Headteacher and Key Stage One leader. Ms Bailey will be taking Class 4 until January

Mrs Percival has been appointed Assistant Headteacher and Inclusion manager as from September.

Mrs Cockcroft is returning as a part time teacher after her maternity leave and will form part of the Year 3 team with Mrs Percival and Mrs Whittaker.
Ms Rehman has been appointed to take over from Mrs Kitchin in Year 4 when she goes on maternity leave in October. She will start in September and they will team teach until then.

Unauthorised absences

Any holidays as from September 2015 will now have to be fined. We will now be obliged to send a penalty notice for any holidays in term time for 5 days and over. This is £60 per child per parent.

Payments online

We are going ‘cashless’! SIMS agora has now been successfully trialed for 12 months. In common with most Rochdale schools, as from September 2015 we will no longer accept cash or cheques for dinner money, Nursery, Music tuition and Lion Club through the office. You will still be able to buy uniform using cash or cheques made payable to Monkhouse Schoolwear. If you have not activated the code for your child or do not have one please contact the office asap in order to be set up for September.

Free School Meals

All KS1 and Reception children are entitled to a free school meal from September. If you are currently getting Free School Meals you must register as before to continue getting your benefits.

Current Year 2 will no longer be entitled to UIFSM (Free School Meals) in September. There will be a charge of £10.25p per week if you want to continue with school meals, payable by SIMSagora online.

Reminders

Parking: Parents who park their cars on the unadopted lane running alongside the fields, run the risk of getting a parking ticket and hefty fine. This is because they are parking illegally as they are obstructing a fire engine or ambulance from getting onto the school playground if needed. Thank you to those parents who have taken registration numbers and reported the cars to the police.
