Health and Well Being Awards evening

The Health and wellbeing awards took place this week. It was a fantastic opportunity to share the successes of the whole school in a variety of awards, sports related and achievements of the entire school population. We were delighted to have with us Charlotte Hartley, Sky Sports Living for Sport ambassador, to help make the awards. Many thanks to all those who attended and well done to all those who were nominated and received awards.

RED-AID

Thank you for your fabulous support to the family fun day which was a great success. What an amazing atmosphere around all the stalls and activities and so much enjoyment was had by all.

Parent Consultation sessions / Annual Reports
A reminder that the parents evening for students in Years 10 – 14 will take place on Tuesday 14 July to follow up the annual review / My Plan review meetings already held during this academic year, an annual report will be sent to parents in time for the consultation meetings.

Nomination for Award
Students and staff attending an awards ceremony on Friday lunchtime at The Hilton Hotel on Deansgate having been shortlisted for a special award. Let’s keep our fingers crossed but regardless of the outcome we can all see the effect of our work on students healthy lifestyles.

After School & Youth Clubs

Clubs will not run next week and these will start again in September. Thank you for your support with the extended schools programme during the year and we look forward to the same level of commitment in the next academic year.

Transition Visits

It was wonderful to welcome to Redwood on Tuesday those current Year 6 students who will be starting with us in September. The success of the transition programme will ensure that everybody hits the ground running in September. To all our Year 6 students and your families I hope you have a great summer and I look forward to seeing you in the new term.

KS3

Shane, Luke, Ethan H, Michael, Abdullah, Chloe and Ubaid attended the Lancashire Cricket Club’s open day at Old Trafford. They were able to watch the match as well as explore the activities going on around the ground. In the lunch break they had the opportunity to go onto the pitch and play cricket in front of the crowd. Everybody had a fantastic day.

16 students from KS3 represented Redwood at the Greater Manchester Summer Games at Sport City on Tuesday. They performed excellently in the Football, Seated Volleyball and New Age Kurling events.

A group of KS3 staff attended a full day workshop with Ken Black, a PMLD sports specialist, as part of the Youth Sports Trust award won by the school earlier this year. The sessions were very informative and will be adapted and included in the KS3 sports curriculum in the new school year.

Red-Aid held their second annual fun day on Friday 3 July and raised £2,000.. Activities included stalls selling cakes, plants, toys, books and home-made pottery.
The Fire Crew attended for pupils to experience sitting inside the fire engine and looking at the equipment they use.
Visitors and students also had a fantastic time celebrating the 70th Anniversary of VE Day with cream teas and music by Lancashire Belle accompanied by some 1940s dancers.

Students also really enjoyed trying on different army clothing brought by Mr and Mrs Mills from Heywood.

KS4

A big thanks to everyone that supported us on our Red-Aid Fun Day. With your help we managed to raise over £2000. The weather was great and we had a great day.

A group of Key Stage 4 students went to Chester Zoo as a reward for their good behaviour over the year. The students: Jacob, Akasha, Corey, Ciaran, Declan, Bradley, Sajida, Aaron, Jolene, Jordyn, Safia, Isaac, Khadija, Ben, Sabrina, Imran, Nabeel, Kaan. All had an excellent day, even though they were stuck in traffic for over an hour they still managed to see plenty of animals.

KS5

It’s Activity week in 6th form and we have been visiting the decades from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. The Art group made beautiful corsages and worked on designs in a Matisse style. The Music and Dance group explored the hula hoops whilst listening to Rock N Roll and drinking shakes at the milk bar.

We finished off last week with a most successful RED-AID Day. We had plenty of help from Internship students who came over to run the stalls and there were some great workshops to join in with.
