Alkrington Primary School

Date published: 14 July 2015

Thursday 16 July is Year 6 Leavers’ Assembly at 10.45am. Parents and Carers of Year 6 children are invited to the assembly. Year 6 children will finish at 12noon and all other children finish at 3.15pm.

Success in Y6

I am delighted to report to you that once again our Y6 pupils leave our school well prepared for secondary school. The hard work of staff and children has meant that the proportions of pupils achieving the expected level, L4, and in most cases higher, is significantly above the national averages, including many children who achieved the highest possible level, L6 in their assessments in Reading, Writing, Mathematics and Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling.

This group of children, along with others from the recent years, has made very good progress over the course of their time at our school.

End of Year Award Winners

Children were chosen by staff from each class from Reception to Y5 and invited to receive an award at our ‘Awards Evening’ last week. Thank you to the many of you who attended and ‘well done!’ Y6 Award Winners are revealed at the Leavers’ Assembly on Thursday.

Attendance Ted was shared by 2E, 2C and 5T who all had 99.3% attendance last week.
On Time Ted was shared by 1M, 3B and 3K - who had no children late for school – Well Done.

Alkrington Primary School After School Club

For those who has requested a place at After School Club, run by the school, in September, a form for contact and other details has been sent out, which needs to be completed and returned to the office, ideally, by Thursday this week. If you believe that you have reserved a place but have not received a form, please contact the office.

To confirm places for September, a ‘Welcome Pack’ will be sent to your home address during the summer holiday. Any other questions? Or if you are interested in using our After School Club in September, please ask.

Breakfast Club

The school run Breakfast club has made changes to the costs from September. This is true for all but pupils who are in receipt of a Free School Meal, or have done in the previous six years are, from September, asked to pay a small subsidised cost, rather than the free place which has been available. A letter has been sent to the parents concerned.

During the Summer Holiday

There is building work at school in the holiday. This includes:
*New teaching space in the Early Years end of school
*Refurbishment of the library area and creation of meeting rooms
*Section of the flat roof replaced
*Decoration to classroom

The current Nursery entrance will be out of use in September whilst building work is completed, so new Nursery children will need to access school via the entrance for the Reception children. Things should be back to normal at the end of September.

Attendance

Thank you for your support in helping to make sure that your children are in school and on time as much as possible this year. Our school attendance figure remains above the national average and will be close to our target of 96.2% this year.

Thank You!
Once again it has been, overall, a successful year at Alkrington Primary School for pupils and staff. Thank you for the way that you continue to support the school and your children.
Our school is far from being perfect, but is now providing, in the vast majority of cases, a good quality education for our pupils, with a high quality curriculum. There are still many areas where I can see that further improvements need to be made, and with your support we will continue to strive to make your child’s experience here an outstanding one.

I hope that you have an enjoyable summer break and I look forward to seeing you all again in September. Thank you for your continued support. Mr T Barnes - Headteacher
