Jennifer Waters and Megan Mckee are Cardinal Langley's 'A' stars

Jennifer Waters and Megan Mckee were the GCSE high achievers at Cardinal Langley - both gained eight A*s and two As.

Jennifer said: “"I got much better than I expected so I’m really happy. My family came with me today to collect my results so I’m glad I did so well. I haven't decided what I want to do next."

Megan said: “I was so nervous when I was waiting for my results and couldn't eat this morning.

"I feel loads more confident starting college now that I know I did well. I’m going to miss Cardinal Langley it's been great here."

Amy Cunningham, who got one A*, seven As and two Bs, said: "I can't believe my results I’m so chuffed. In going to stay on here at Cardinal Langley Sixth Form to study Biology, Chemistry, English and Economics which I’m looking forward to."

Frances Fowden got two A*s, six As and two B’s, she said: “I put so much effort in, I've been studying loads so I’m really pleased with myself. I’m looking forwatd to a nice break but excited to start Xaverian College, it looks cool inside so I’m looking forward to a change of scenery". She will be studying Biology, Chemistry, Maths and History.

Anthony Kirven’s teacher said: “After getting an A in his favourite subject, Drama, Anthony is now going on to Xaverian College to study performing arts. He is a big personality at the school and is a Prefect who helps younger students, he will be sadly missed by staff.”

Hannah Ruddy cried as she opened her results with her mum, she got three A*s, six As and a B. Hannah said: “I have worked so hard so I am really pleased with myself; these are tears of joy. I happy that I have done my family proud.

“I think I’m going to go to Hopwood Hall to study french, maths, business studies and computing because you get to do programming and coding which I like.

“I really enjoy working with computers and hope to go on to study Advanced Computing at university if I get good results then too."

Orla Madden, who got two A*s, seven As and a B, said: “I’m so pleased with my results I can't wait to start my A levels now."

Lauren Band got six A*s and four As, she said: “"I am in shock and totally over the moon"

Both Orla and Lauren are continuing at Cardinal Langley Sixth Form to study Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Physics together.

It was another successful year for students at Cardinal Langley with 74% of students achieving A* – C grades and 100% achieving A* - C in Physical Education, Catering, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Andrew Bridson, Headteacher, said: "Our students have once again done themselves proud and thoroughly deserve their excellent grades. Each student has worked towards their own goals and supported each other to achieve them. This is a real testament to the strength of our community and the mutual support between all staff and students.

"This year 77% of all grades where A* – C and these fantastic young people have succeeded despite the unprecedented changes in course and exam structure under the new government reforms.”

There were fourteen star performers who achieved at least eight A*/A grades, with four achieving ten A*/A grades:

  • Megan Mckee: eight A* and two A 
  • Chelsea-Leigh Barber: seven A*, two A and two B
  • Lauren Band: six A* and four A 
  • Helen O’Loughlin: six A*, three A and a B
  • Hannah Ruddy: three A*, six A and a B 
  • Margret Kadembo: three A*, six A and a B
  • Katrina Hateley: two A* and eight A
  • Orla Madden: two A*, seven A and a B 
  • Jack Tickle: two A*, seven A and a C
  • Frances Fowden: two A*, six A and two B
  • Amy Cunningham: one A*, seven A and two B 
  • Jacob Stevenson: one A*, seven A and two B
  • Oliver White: eight A, a B and a C
