Date published: 20 August 2015

Students from St Cuthbert’s RC High School are celebrating after collecting their GCSE results. Overall 53% of students at the school have received five grades at A*-C, including English and maths.

Head teacher at St Cuthbert’s, Dr Meehan said: “We are very proud of our young people and their results. There are some outstanding performances that reflect the hard work and commitment of our students and staff at St Cuthbert’s.”

Also, noteworthy performances came from a number of students who arrived at the school on level three and below but have gone on to achieve at least eight grade Cs and above.

Georgia Taylor was the first pupil in the school to receive her results this morning. Speaking to Rochdale Online, she said: “There was 20 seconds of courage as I went up to get them, because I knew someone had to be the first, and then I was a little nervous. Everything that I took I passed. I am feeling good because I did better than I expected.”

Georgia is now heading to Pendleton College to study Musical Theatre.

16-year-old Sophie Mannion from Littleborough achieved seven A* and three A grades and will now be going to Rochdale Sixth Form College to study for her A-Levels in maths, biology, English language and psychology. She said she was “over the moon” with her results and plans to work just as hard when she begins her A-Levels.

16-year-old Chloe Wade from Littleborough achieved three A*, five A and two B grades in her exams. She said: “I’m feeling good. I’m now going to Rochdale Sixth Form College to do my A-Levels. My time at St Cuthbert’s has been good and the hard work has paid off.”

Daniel Lowe, 16, from Milnrow achieved four A*, four As and two Bs and is now hoping that one day he will find himself at Cambridge University. He said: “I’m really happy and to be honest, they are the results I was expecting. I’m going to Rochdale Sixth Form College and then hope to one day go on to Cambridge University, which is what I’ve always wanted to do.”

Robyn Waldie, 16, from Shawclough was over the moon with her results after achieving five A*, four As and one B grade. She said: “I am really happy. My mum came with me today and she is really happy as well. I’m now going to Rochdale Sixth Form College to do chemistry, biology, maths and geography and I also got on the Scholars Course there, which means I get a bursary and means I get to go to lectures and do some other stuff as well. I don’t know what I want to do after college but am thinking maybe something in pharmaceuticals.”

Alexandra Mort from Norden achieved three A*, five As and one B. She said: “The teachers worked really hard with us and put us through lots of revision. I wasn't predicted any A* grades, so I'm really pleased.”

Alexandra is now going off to study for her A-Levels at Holy Cross and will be studying chemistry, biology, maths and psychology.

Head Girl Nathalie Mukambilwa from Newbold achieved four A*, five As and one B and is now off to study for her A-Levels at Holy Cross. She will be studying chemistry, biology, maths and history. Nathalie is thrilled with her results and said: "I will be celebrating by having flour thrown over me by my family, as apparently, it’s part of our culture to celebrate in this way."

16-year-old Courtney Nokes achieved three Cs and three D grades and is now off to college to study travel and tourism. She said: “I’m happy because I did better than I thought I would. My family will be proud.”

Benjamin Hartnell-Booth achieved six A* and four A grades. He said: “You could say that I’m pleased, yeah. I am hoping to have a career in law and will hopefully go on to do that at university and end up with a career as a barrister.”
