PE News

After a lovely autumnal day, suitably wet and miserable weather greeted the start of this year's Rochdale Schools Cross Country competition. This year's event will be run over 3 consecutive Thursdays with individual prizes and team prizes up for grabs. There were excellent performances from all runners who really pushed themselves to achieve well in this gruelling event, but special mention must go to:

  • MacKenzie King (1st place Year 7 boys)
  • Ethan Wardle (3rd place Year 7 boys)
  • Katie Halligan (2nd place Year 11 Girls)

We look forward to seeing if all students can equal or better their performance this week.

On Tuesday our year 8 girls football team represented Rochdale at a tournament in Thornton.

The purpose of the tournament was to try and increase participation in girl’s football and for all players to enjoy the experience. Our girls were a credit to the school and gave 100% in all matches.

Player of the tournament was Nondja Ca Tavares for her outstanding defending throughout the course of the day. Well done to all!

Poetry Competition News

Some of our year 7 maths classes have been getting involved in our school poetry competition with the theme of light. They were given some facts about the speed of light and were asked to use this or any other information they could find to write a poem. Some fantastic poems were written. We’ll find out who the winners are next week!

Please submit your poems to Miss Machen by Monday 5 October. Attached are photographs of W. Plumbley and P.Rose, (year7), sharing their ideas.

Open Evening

On Wednesday 23 September St Cuthbert’s held their open evening. It was an extremely successful event and the feedback we have received has been very positive and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting our guests. If you would to come and view the school during a school day, please contact Mrs Angove who will be more than happy to assist.

Thank you to all the pupils who turned up the represent the faculty on Open Evening. You really were a credit to the school. Many visitors were impressed by your talents.

'Jack and the Beanstalk'

Rehearsals continue for 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. Please check the Pupil Bulletin, Pupil noticeboard, school website, Facebook and Twitter for next week's rehearsal schedule.
We have some budding film directors in our Year 9 and 10 Media groups.

Media students have been making short films for the first time. They have been busy familiarising themselves with the Media software in school. Steven Spielberg look out!

Yr 11 Drama students have been presenting their design ideas for controlled assessments this week. Despite being nervous about being filmed the students spoke in depth and detail about their chosen designs.
