PE News

The second Rochdale School’s cross country championships took place again on Thursday. Conditions were a little better than last week! Congratulations to Makenzie King who remained on top form, achieving 1st place in the year 7 race.

Another special mention goes to Reece Grant in year 9 who achieved 2nd place. The final meet is next Thursday. We wish all of our athletes the best of luck.

Expressive Arts


Our 'Stars of the week' are:

 

  • Mrs Maloney: Ashleigh Higney for her excellent commitment in Media Studies
  • Mr Turner: Kyanna Cronshaw for excellent composition work Mrs Knox
  • Bene Lawal for performing with superb control Mr Julier
  • Martina Chudzinska for her beautifully crafted artwork

 

Pupils will receive a certificate and 20 vivos 'Jack and the Beanstalk' - please check rehearsal schedules on the pupil bulletin, school facebook and twitter feeds.

We are now at the end of Act 1 Scene 3 so please check your scripts for Act 1 Scenes 4/5. Full cast rehearsals continue on Monday lunchtimes and after school.

Yr 11 GCSE Drama students are currently working on monologues/duologues for controlled assessments. This is a challenging performance which pupils must be ready to record on Monday 12th Oct.

GCSE Music:

A reminder from Mr Turner to check the timetable for individual Music lessons and for GCSE pupils to fill in your practice log books. Mrs Maloney will be checking these next week.

Media Studies:

Yr 9 pupils have had their first opportunity to make a short film. Pupils have used storyboards to plan a shot sequence and are in the process of editing for the first time.

Art:

GCSE pupils are working on their planning sheets. These combine sketches and annotations of their chosen culture with pupils' own development and interpretation. There is some impressive work inspired by a range of cultures such as Japanese and Mexican Art.

Groundwork Trust

The Groundwork trust group completed a St John's Ambulance First Aid Course on Wednesday.

Sam, Claire, Bethan, Zarin, Austin, Taylor and Billy were trained in a range of first aid techniques, they participated well and all enjoyed the day.

RE News

Year 7 News

 

This week, we welcome representatives from ‘Gideons International’ who are dedicated to Bible studies. We are very fortunate that each and every one of our pupils is invited to take their very own Bible from our Gideons Representative.

Our Year 7 Pastoral evening takes place on Thursday 15 October between 5pm and 7pm. Parents and carers of our Year 7 pupils are invited to meet with their child’s form tutor to discuss their progress and any concerns that may arise. Please ensure you book an appointment.

Science News

Last Thursday evening, at Loreto College, 8 of our Year 11 students enjoyed the opportunity to explore areas where Physics is used i.e medical areas such as ultrasound images (they looked at images of blood flowing through their carotid artery) and had an ECG took to measuring how fast they could throw a ball. All pupils thoroughly enjoyed their experience.

Poetry Competition

Our Poetry competition is in full flow, but which way will the voters go?
We’ve had lots of entries and Miss Machen is extremely impressed with the quality of the poems so far. The closing date was last Monday. Check back next week, where the winners will be announced!
