Science Awards

Congratulations to the following pupils who have made an exception start in their science classes. Has your science teacher selected you? Keep an eye on next week’s news to see who has been chosen.

A Brookes in 8a1 science has been awarded outstanding progress this half term from her teacher Miss Sarwar.

A Tavares in 11a5 science has been awarded outstanding progress this half term from her teacher Miss Jackson.

C Ross in 11a4 science has been awarded outstanding progress this half term from his teacher Mr Riley.

Deep Learning Days

This Friday sees the first of our ‘Deep Learning’ days. Different year groups will have different focusses for the day.

Year 7 'Be Safe, Stay Safe' - 5 different sessions covering road safety, healthy food choices, first aid and Internet safety Year 8 'Community Cohesion' - the sessions include a presentation from the Red Cross about refugees, different religious traditions, different languages and literature form other cultures,

Year 9 - 'Prison Me No Way', a day involving representatives from the prison services, the fire brigade, the police and local magistrates to learn about the criminal justice system Year 10 - Science ISAS - good luck!

Year 11 - 'After Year 11 Event' -students will be preparing for their post sixteen choices including completing application forms, CVS, personal statements and interview techniques. There will also be a post 16 providers market in the sports hall involving representatives of over 15 different colleges and training providers. An exciting day for all!

REward Winners

Congratulations to the REwards raffle winners who received 50 Vivos for their positive contributions to RE last week: Sharon Ade-Coker, Owen Donohoe, Lauren Lynch, Georgina Martin and Nikola Wolska.

Expressive Arts 'stars of the week'

 

  • Music: Courtney McAndrew for outstanding progress in singing lessons
  • Drama: Jack Daniel for consistently hard work which results in quality performances
  • Art: Holly Parnum-Taylor for excellent drawing ability and focus in lessons
  • Media: Gianluca Macari for his resilience and positive attitude

Please check the rehearsal schedule for the first week back after half term. 'Thriller' dancers - please check the list for when Laura Dawe (Yr 11) is choreographing your dance.

Music:

GCSE pupils please continue to record your practice in your log books. Check the board for your instrumental/vocal lessons. Musical Liturgy group please remember that mass is now on Tuesday lunchtime.

Mrs Maloney is looking for volunteers to promote boys' achievement in school by producing some adverts for the intranet. Please speak to miss if you are interested. Yr 11: a reminder of your deadlines for Tues 3rd November - Mrs Beisty's class: trailer analysis and audience profile. Mrs Maloney's class: storyboards

Drama:

Well done to Viviana Ripa for the excellent research on evacuees, our current Yr 7 Drama unit. Details of the London trip will be issued after half term.

Art:

A reminder that the Art Barn is open to GCSE pupils at lunchtimes and after school for intervention and development of classwork.
Look out for our Expressive Arts 'Wall of Fame' soon to arrive on the Hall corridor. The wall will feature photographs and work done by pupils in the faculty. We are incredibly proud of the achievements of our Arts students and this is an opportunity to showcase their talents and successes.

Year 7 Pastoral Evening

 

Last Thursday we invited parents and carers of our current year 7 students to chat with their child’s form tutor to discuss how they have settled into life at secondary school. The event was very positive and it was great to meet members of our community. If any parent has any concerns regarding their child’s progress and attainment, please do not hesitate to contact the relevant Head of Year or any member of the pastoral team.
