Wardle Academy Youth Band fund raise their way to London

Date published: 27 October 2015

Wardle Academy Youth Band joined forces with Wardle Anderson Brass, Wardle Community Band and Wardle Junior Blast on Saturday 17 October, to raise over £2,000 for their travel and accommodation to the Lord Mayor’s show where they have been invited to perform.

Special appearances were made by the Mayor of Rochdale, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, the Mayor and Mayoress of Oldham and the Mayor of Whitworth, all of whom enjoyed the programme of music performed by each band. The evening also consisted of a raffle and auction.

The Wardle Academy Youth Band will perform at the Lord Mayor’s Show in London on Saturday 14 November. The show will feature a parade around central London with around half a million people expected to turn out to watch, it will also be televised by the BBC.

After much generosity and hard work fundraising, the band have now raised enough money to cover the costs of travel and accommodation for each band member.

Lee Rigg, conductor of the Wardle Academy Youth Band said: “We would like to thank everyone who has put their hands in their pockets and donated, no matter how big or small. We really appreciate everyone’s generosity, it has given us the chance to carry out this brilliant opportunity that we have been given. We are now looking forward to going down to London.”
