St Michael’s C of E Primary School, in Middleton, has been awarded £10,000 from BT Business Tech Factor to help them continue with their film making lessons and projects.

BT Business ran their first Tech Factor competition to find the most innovative children in Britain and St Michael’s came top out of almost 40 video entries.

Headteacher, Jill Brenchley said: “We were very fortunate that they decided that we were the winners. We were all absolutely delighted to find out that we had won. Everyone played a part in it so everyone from the pupils to the teachers are delighted.”

St Michael’s has been using animation to motivate and engage pupils in the classroom, and contextualise difficult areas of the curriculum. Flicker pictures have been used for simple animation and the schools e-cadets have delivered online safety messages to the school and parents via an animated presentation.

The school would like to develop and grow their animation projects by investing in equipment that will help them produce high quality work. They hope that animation can be used to engage a wider audience, to share the films and learning on You Tube, and to build a learning resource for future learners at the school and if shared on the web, for learners everywhere.

Mrs Brenchley added: “We have used the money to buy some mini IPads which will allow us to make stop motion films and some Kindles which will allow us to look at play scripts. We are then hoping that this encourages a love of reading and that is something we can use the play scripts for.”
