Christmas at Hamer Community Primary School

Date published: 18 December 2015

Children from the whole learning community at Springside and Hamer came together for a Christmas celebration to sing carols and celebrate the values and traditions associated with Christmas on Friday 18 December.

We talked and sang about the messages of inclusion, of celebration, of love and respect for all; values that unite all people of all faiths. The children had a lovely time, working and singing together and their behaviour, participation and kindness for one another was outstanding.

The children, staff and Governors of Hamer school enjoyed a special traditional Christmas Turkey dinner (or vegetarian option as required) on Thursday 17 December. The children enjoyed pulling Christmas crackers, wearing the paper hats and entertaining us all with the jokes from inside the crackers.

Congratulations to Miss Weaver’s class who enjoyed the recent cinema treat for the class with the highest termly attendance percentage. This took place next door at M6 Theatre and staff and children have fed back that this was a most enjoyable venue.

On Wednesday 16 December, Hamer and Springside children enjoyed some disco-fun and dancing together. Thanks to our resident DJ Mr. Casey for swapping his PE trainers for his mixing decks once again.

Thank you for the fantastic support at the Winter Fair on Tuesday 15 December. Our community raised £260 for school funds as result of a great attendance and fabulous generosity.

The winning raffle ticket in the Teddy Bear raffle from the winter fair was bought by Deon in Class 8 at Springside and he was delighted to collect his grand prize today. Congratulations Deon.

May we take this opportunity to thank all of our brilliant Hamer families for the support and sense of community you nurture and continue to develop at school. Hamer School is the fabulous place it is because of our true ‘working together and caring spirit’ which happens all year round and not just at Christmas!! Have a happy holiday with those who mean the most to you and we look forward to seeing you all back in school on Monday 4 January.

Our website has been updated with lots of pictures of all of the festive events mentioned in this newsletter. Please have a look and see the children, families and staff working together, learning and enjoying themselves.

Our lovely Mrs Kausar leaves our school at the end of this term. Mrs Kausar has contributed to Hamer School so positively for over 8 years and we would like to thank her for her unwavering commitment to our children and the school during this time. We will, of course, miss her very much and wish her all the very best for her future. We are, however, delighted to announce that Miss Jenny Jakeman, who has been working in the Unit this half term has been appointed to the post of TA3 in Early Years.

Well done to Miss Holden’s class again for best attendance for week ending 11 December 2015. Please support us by ensuring that your child is on time and in school every day.
