'From Mozart to Musicals' at St Clements

On 25 September, St Clement’s, Spotland, was pleased to welcome Harriet Eaves, Eleanor Edmonds and Georgia Bishop, three vocal students from Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester and their accompanist Nicholas Oliver.

The church was packed for their “Mozart to Musicals” concert and the varied programme, including opera, sacred music, folk and songs from the shows, meant there was something for everyone.

There was a raffle on the night with many prizes generously donated by local businesses.

The evening was a great success, raising £1,040 which will be shared equally between St Clement’s and Harriet’s “Commonwealth Resounds!” fund. This will help to enable Harriet, who is from Rochdale, to travel to Trinidad & Tobago in November to perform alongside other young musicians and singers from around the world at the bi-annual Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

“The Commonwealth Resounds!” is an organisation seeking to identify and promote outstanding musical initiatives in Commonwealth countries, develop partnerships between artists from different cultural origins and support training programmes for young musicians.
The young people from Chetham’s are hoping, through various fundraising initiatives, to be able to raise enough to pay for four talented young brass players from Ghana also to attend the Trinidad event who would not otherwise be able to take part.
