St Andrew's Church, Dearnley

World War One

St Andrew's Church, Dearnley are thinking about organising a Peace Vigil on August 4, for which we would need a rota of people to be in church.

We have also considered a Heritage weekend in September, to include graveyard trails in Dearnley, Wardle and Smallbridge, specifically for anyone who might with to explore family and community history. As part of that we would plan to contact descendants of World War One soldiers.

During the week of Remembrance Sunday we would think of working with and in schools to develop themes of reconciliation, remembrance, sacrifice and hope through art, literature and music, possibly to incorporate a 'Songs from the Wars' evening.

We need a planning group to consider and then organise what we will be doing to commemorate the outbreak of World War One.

Anyone who would like to be involved should speak to Susan Knight or Janice Halstead.

'Experience Easter'
We will not be doing our usual 'Experience Easter' with schools this year as term finishes two weeks before Easter. It seems inappropriate to be 'doing Holy Week' four weeks early so we are looking instead at the possibility of doing 'Experience Pentecost' in May and inviting the children from our schools to come to that instead.

Parochial Church Meeting

The annual Parochial Church Meeting will be held at 11am on Sunday, April 27. Anyone interested in becoming a sidesperson or serving on the PCC should speak to the church wardens, Susan Knight or Ray Milligan.

Anyone wishing to buy a rose bush for the church garden please speak to Frank Holt.
