Easter fun at St Edmund’s Church

Date published: 06 April 2015

Families enjoyed the Easter festivities at St Edmund’s Church this Easter Sunday (5 April).

Children took part in the Great Easter Egg Decoration Competition and the Albert Hudson Royds Fact Finding Trail, where they could find facts about the founder of the church. Prizes of Easter eggs were awarded to the winners.

Children also played with the explorer cart, which was filled with fun tools and activities to use whilst exploring the church.

Howard Bowden, friend and volunteer of the Church’s Conservation Trust, said: “There’s more to Easter than just eating eggs. We want to raise the importance of the re-birth of Christ and to raise the profile of the church.

"We start the tradition from Good Friday, where we live in darkness and cover anything shiny from Midnight to celebrate Christ’s passing, which means that on Easter Sunday we celebrate his revival.

“All the money raised goes towards the restoration and general upkeep of the building. Everything comes out of our pockets or from donations, which pays for fabric materials, lighting and heating. I volunteer through my admiration of the church and I hope this event has brought awareness of the church.”
