£3million for Youth Project

Work is due to start on a major £3 million project to turn the old  mill at the Kashmir Youth Project into a community resource. This Monday,  leader of Rochdale Council - Cllr. Paul Rowen will be joined at a special ceremony to launch the project by Chesterfield MP - Paul Holmes, the Lib Dem Shadow Ministerial on Work and Pensions.

The work will officially start on Monday to turn the old mill into a state of the art community resource and economic and enterprise centre. Cllr. Paul Rowen said, "This is a very exciting time for the Kashmir Youth Project who have worked with the Rochdale Development Agency, Rochdale and other agencies to make this project possible.  For the last 25 years KYP has proved a fantastic success story helping countless young people.  The refurbishment of the old mill is the next chapter in the ongoing project.  We're delighted that Paul Holmes MP has taken such a keen interest and will be touring the existing facilities and will be briefed on the future plans."

The organisation has expanded its services over the last twenty-five years and now has a turnover in excess of £1,000,000, employing over forty members of staff. The organisation has successfully achieved a number of external awards including Investors in People.

KYP is located at the heart of Wardleworth and Hamer, situated approximately two miles from Rochdale Town Centre.At the present KYP currently delivers services from two buildings and two portacabins situated on Belfield Road. Both Apna Ghar and the Welfare Advice service are accommodated within KYP’s main building.
