'The High' to the rescue

Date published: 18/10/2005

Local rock band 'The High' have come to the rescue of benefit gig organisers Tom Butterworth and Tom Lanyon at short notice. Both pupils at Falinge Park High School, they have spent over two months organising a gig scheduled for Saturday 22 October at Falinge Park School as part of a GCSE project. They have valiently battled on in the face of numerous unforseen obstacles such as an enforced change of date and an insistence on adult helpers with CRB checks. However, overcome them they have and then with just a week to go one of the three bands on the bill pulled out!

Cue, The High. Tom Butterworth saw The High perform at a recent Rochdale Band Nite and needing a band at short notice thought of The High, knowing they would be very much appreciated by the 14 - 20 year-old audience expected at the gig, though he never expected they would be able to help at such short notice. However, on being contacted Duncan Rigby, The High's manager, pulled out all the stops to reorganise the bands schedule, drummer Aaron even giving up a planned weekend away, to help.

Duncan said: "'The High' are only to willing to help this cause out."

Tom Butterworth said: "Having watched The High recently I didn't dare hope such a superb band would be available at such short notice, never mind be prepared to give up their time for free for the gig. I cannot thank them enough and along with the other two bands on the bill, 'Wrong' and 'Here Goes' I know they are going to to make it a gig to remember."

The gig starts at 6.00pm and finishes at 10.00pm, tickets are £4 (available from Tom Butterworth - email: thomas.butterworth@ntlworld.com) and all proceeds will go to cancer research.

With close on 100 already sold, gig fans are advised to contact Tom Butterworth as soon as possible for tickets to avoid disappointment.
