Development in Rehabilitation Services for Older People

New and improved Rehabilitation Services were launched aimed at enhancing the quality of life and promoting independence within older people.

The service is provided at Meadow View in Rochdale, and Tudor Court in Heywood.

The service offers older people a range of therapies such as physiotherapy and occupational therapy following a crisis or a recent hospital stay. This therapy prevents further or inappropriate admissions to hospital or long-term residential care.

The Mayor Councillor Ashley Dearnley attended the launch at Meadow View Resource Centre, Cutgate, on Tuesday 29 November 2005.

The launch of the new service came as a result of over £2 million investment into Intermediate Care Services by the collaboration of Rochdale Council’s Adult Care Service, Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton Primary Care Trusts.

The news has been welcomed by Rochdale’s Older People’s Champion Vera Hirst

“I believe the service redesign is another vital step towards improving the health of senior citizens within the community.  Older people will be spared the inconvenience and worry of having to be admitted to hospital, they can now be sure that they will get the best and most appropriate treatment closer to home”.

Paul Lavin, Intermediate Care Co-ordinator says: “This development is an excellent example of Health and Social Care Agencies working together to improve outcomes for older people”.
