Heywood murder update - victim identified

A woman who was found dead in a house in Rochdale over the weekend has been formally identified.

The body of Susan Crane, DOB 23/05/1975, of Grosvenor Street, was discovered after officers were called to the area at approximately 9.30pm on Saturday 18 February 2006 following a series of incidents.

On attendance at the scene police discovered the body of a 69-year-old woman inside a house on the street. She had suffered what are believed to be stab injuries and was taken to hospital, where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

Following further investigation, Susan's body was found inside another house on Grosvenor Street. She was confirmed dead at the scene.

One man and one woman also received leg injuries after a car was driven at them on Bury Old Road. A third man is being treated in hospital after being found to have sustained a stab wound to the neck. He is currently in a stable condition.

A murder investigation has been launched and a Home Office Post Mortem is due to take place later today, Monday 20 February 2006.

Officers attended court, in order to obtain a warrant of further detention to continue questioning a 45-year-old man from Heywood, who has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
