Local election candidates invited to pitch for your vote
Date published: 04/04/2006
As Rochdale Online did in the last local elections in 2004, and the parliamentary elections in 2005, we have written to each of the candidates and invited them to submit their election 'pitch', that is, why they believe they should be a ward councillor and why you should vote for them.
Letters are being posted on Wednesday 5 April, so the first test will be to see which councillors are keen enough for your vote to submit a 'pitch' promptly.
The second test is to see how much time and trouble they take over it - a pretty good indicator of how much they are prepared to put into working for you - will they submit a couple of 'party' dictated lines, or will they go in depth in their own words.
The third test is to note which ones are prepared to take your votes for granted and fail to submit a 'pitch', that is, not bother to explain why you should vote for them at all!
- We will be uploading candidates pitches as we receive them so please do check back on a regular basis.
- To view a candidates pitch please click on their name in the navigation menu on the left of the elections special pages.

The local council is responsible for a surprising number of services that you use and rely on every day: from housing to street lighting, education to pub licensing, parking to sports facilities, and park maintenance to care for the elderly. That's why your vote can make a real difference. Don't miss this chance to have your say about the issues that affect your everyday life.
