A Rochdale man is more than £250 out of pocket after refusing to pay a £50 on-the-spot fine for dropping litter.
Sohail Hameed, aged 45, of Melville Street, Rochdale appeared before Rochdale magistrates on 12 April in a case brought by the Council’s Street Services, Enforcement Section. He was fined £100 and was also told to pay £152.42 costs, all to be paid within 14 days.
Hameed was spotted in the Castleton area, when he was issued with a fixed penalty notice under section 88, of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
Acting Head of Environmental Management Services Peter Cunningham said the case should serve as a warning to anyone tempted to get rid of their litter by dropping it in the street.
