Local Higher Education Fair Invites Pupils To Shape Their Future
Date published: 17/05/2004
Pupils who are thinking about education after 18 can get answers to their questions next week as Rochdale hosts the second Annual Higher Education Fair at Rochdale Town Hall.
The event is on Wednesday 19 May and Thursday 20 May. Pupils from the Rochdale schools are attending 10am until 3pm on both days.
All pupils are invited to 'Shape their Future' by visiting the fair and considering the benefits of staying on in education and getting a degree.
Diane King, Director of Rochdale Excellence in Cities (Education) said, "People who achieve in higher education generally enjoy better health and earn more than people who did not go to university. We want to increase the number of young people in Rochdale borough who apply for and enter higher education, and we want to see young people from all backgrounds taking advantage of the opportunities in further and higher education."
Bev Todd representing Aimhigher said, "Our aim is to provide a higher education fair that is fun and welcoming. The more young people we can get into further and higher education the better it will be for the future as a whole."
Over the two days, Year 9 and 10 pupils from the Rochdale schools will join university and college staff to explore different career choices and take part in an exciting range of activities and workshop. Online access will also provide information about colleges and universities.
Amongst the entertainment planned at the event is ImpAct Theatre, who will be performing a rolling programme throughout the two-day event, called 'HE.4.ALL.' This will give a light-hearted look at the benefits of higher education.
Oxford University will be attending with many of the Northwest Universities and Higher Education Colleges, including Hopwood Hall College who provide the only HE courses in Rochdale. Connexions advisors will be on hand to help with advice, guidance on education, training and careers.
The Rochdale Borough Learning Partnership will also be on hand to tell pupils about the many opportunities open to school leavers progressing into further education and progression routes into university.
