Heywood Against Landfill

As the lead member on Heywood against landfill I assume Councillor Hobhouse means me when she claims" elected members misled their residents". I nor any member of the committee at any time misled anyone. Our retained planning consultant stated that even so called "inert waste" can and often does contain putrescible waste matter which would be very difficult to prevent or control when dealing with the vast amounts of infill which will go to the site each week for at least 5 years.

She states that Heywood planning sub-committee refused planning permission against the recommendations of the planning officers. At the time the officer thought that the case was borderline and admitted that she made her recommendation after a warm ,sunny, spring stroll across the site .

Wera, folklore can say anything it wants the truth of the matter is that the Planning inspector  did not award costs against the Council because he accepted the strong merit of our case.

Had you (or any member of the liberal democratic party) shown the slightest interest in the matter you would have known all this. Of course we are all well aware that your interest in Heywood only began when you were selected as liberal/democrat parliamentary candidate. Meanwhile all the Labour councillors were involved in the campaign along with a large number of residents and were helped immeasurably by Jim Dobbin M.P.

Wera, you only get one chance to make a first impression and you blew it with the people of Heywood.

I would just point out to you that we in Heywood support recycling, what we do not accept is the loss of the weekly collection of putrescible waste. I have had numerous remarks from residents concerned about the thought of keeping used surgical dressings, dialysis ordure and incontinance pads in the bin for a fortnight even if wrapped.
