Spring time

I absolutely love this time of year with new growth everywhere and trees budding with the promise of new leaves and flowers. We had a cow calve this week which is always exciting with the miracle of new life. Of the dozen eggs put in the incubator 3 weeks ago and hand turned twice a day we were disappointed to only hatch one chick, never mind the goose is sitting on 8 eggs so we will just have to hope that she has more success. Our 7 ducklings are now losing their down and gaining some straggly feathers they will soon be out in the yard enjoying the sunshine. The most exciting thing to happen this week was when I drew open the curtains on Saturday morning and saw 2 female Roe deer grazing in the field. Nobody round about farms deer so I can only assume they are wild. I promise the thought of a nice venison steak flitted only momentarily through my mind. One of the best parts of canvassing at this time of year is seing the beautiful gardens so lovingly tended by their owners and I just wish others could see the potential in their gardens instead of strewing them with empty beer cans and supermarket plastic bags.
