As you will all be aware by now the local election campaign is in full swing with only a week or so left until poling day.

Here in Central Rochdale, Farooq Ahmed, your Labour candidate, has built himself a high reputation as a local chef winning many awards.

His latest award was a big rosette for his campaigning. Maureen Nichol, who lives in the Foxholes area of Central Rochdale ward, says that he is a very good chef and has led several successful local campaigns. So, to show her support, Maureen has made Farooq a special rosette. At first Farooq was reluctant to put it on, but two nights of campaigning convinced him of the idea. His agent Cllr Allen Brett takes it back every evening for safe keeping. Allen says it not only aids recognition and identifies the Labour Party, but has become a talking point amongst local children.

Cllr Brett, who only has a normal sized rosette, was slightly surprised when one constituent asked despite the rosette “Which party are you?”
