A proud day

I would to thank all the residents of Buersil, Kingsway, Turfhill and Newbold for electing me on Thursday.  It was a close fight and I was happy to get over the line and join my colleagues David Clayton and Mark Birkett.

The campaign was a tough one - but our positive message, based on a lot of hard work paid off.  I would also like to thank my patient family - many of who helped canvass and deliver leaflets over a 6 month period.  This was not about me - it was about the Liberal Democrats and I am priviledged to represent them on this Council for the next 4 years.

I first got involved in politics in 1976 - so you could say this dream has taken me a while to realise.  I grew up in a political world dominated by my good friend Sir Cyril and his team.  I was pleased that Cyril helped me in my campaign, alongside our campaign team and supported by residents of all ages and faiths.

There were things that dissapointed me about the Labour Campaign but I feel it is now time to move on and start doing my job.  A job I will give my all to.  My priorities will be fighting for more police on the streets of the Kingsway Ward, for a cleaner environment and to help the ordinary person.

I would like to wish my opponents well in whatever they pursue.

We have a great team here and once again I thank you for the priviledge of representing you.

Councillor Naim Mahmud.
