Fighting for Environment and Local Buisness

At Church this morning we were asked to send a postcard to the Prime Minister regarding our concern for the environment and climate change on behalf of Christian Aid. We of course can all play our part to promote sustainability.

Yesterday along with my deputy Cllr Ann Metcalfe I visited a number of interesting projects with which Ann is involved in her  Norden Ward. I was particularly impressed with the new parking arrangements she and Cllr Jim Gartside have brought about at the Norden Bus Terminus.

Whilst looking at this big improvement for local people we called in at the new Delicatessen called ‘Heroes’. This is a super new shop selling local produce, I cannot believe that someone involved in the local community purported to be a Councillor from another party, and supposedly concerned about the environment, could have possibly objected to this shop. However, at least the objection was withdrawn when there was clearly no objection from local people. I wish Paul Sheerin every success in his new venture especially having just enjoyed a particularly excellent lunch from items I purchased from his Deli yesterday.

It is always encouraging when out and about with Councillor colleagues in their Wards how so many people know them, and in Ann’s case were congratulating her on winning again. Ann and Jim are two of the best examples of how local Councillors should carry out their duties.
