The local elections produced 11 new Councillors whom we all hope will be as well respected as those they replace. Those that failed have often worked equally as hard for the election and the unseated candidates will be sad at their loss after representing their constituents for 3 years.
The Liberal Democrats now have a majority of the Councillors so will be responsible for all the major decisions that the Council will need to make without a coalition with Labour which is common in the rest of the country. Yet already they have removed Councillor Jane Gartside from a hospital committee so that just Liberals and Labour can control it. This should have been an all-party approach but at Council on Wednesday night (16 May) they removed the Conservative Member.
I shall write more in a few days, but am very grateful for the opportunity to be able to put views Online without nany censorship!
Best wishes
Councillor James Gartside
