Your recent diary entry reflects everything which I have expressed for so long (please read my earlier diaries).

Most people are behind recycling and our improving rates are proof of this.

Having personally spoken at assemblies promoting the good practice of our recycling officers and the tremendous achievements within all the local primary schools in Norden I feel that demonstrates my commitment and support.

Our recycling targets can be improved dramatically with encouragement, incentives and investment. Education and promotion are vital. Our young people can help tremendously in 'getting the message home.'

Having watched yesterday evenings programme on supermarkets I wonder how many people will still be keen to continue shopping there rather than at their local shops. We must continue to demand far far less packaging made from bio-degradable products. Or better still 'shop local.'

As our rate of recycling improves it should indicate that our domestic waste is being reduced.  Only when we are well on the way to achieving this reduction should we consider the alternate weekly collection. By doing it this way the  inevitable risk to health from over flowing bins, dumped waste and vermin can hopefully be contained.
