Refuse issue refuses to go away!

Last week I helped man the Alternate Weekly Collection Roadshow opposite Bamford Precinct. Phil Tomlin from the Council and I spoke to over a hundred residents over the day. All but one or two people agreed that we need to tackle the problem of landfill and recycling rates. Most residents realise that we cannot do nothing. You only have to drive past the massive landfill site at Pilsworth to realise what impact they have on the environment. We have a great opportunity to not only recycle more, but also to cut down on the number of vehicles collecting and so reduce our ‘Carbon Footprint’. It was very encouraging to see so much enthusiasm for recycling, indeed residents wanted more items dealt with, such as food trays, yoghurt cartons and fruit juice ‘Tetra’ packs, which at the moment the Council do not have the facilities to recycle. I am going to find out if there are facilities in the Private Sector to deal with these items.
For information, the Recycling Wheelies are being delivered now, ready for the first collection of Recycled waste on Wednesday 20th June.
