Fortnightly Bin Collection Fiasco

Well, it’s been the first day for the fortnightly bin collections in Heywood.

Where do I start?

Some parts of Heywood apparently got a leaflet with the wrong calendar from the Council, so they put out the wrong bin today. Today was supposed to be “recyclables day”, but I’m told that people in many parts of Heywood were given a leaflet telling them it was “non-recyclables day”, so they put out their green bin and of course, their green bins got left!!! On one road they were given the correct leaflet on one side of the road and the wrong leaflet on the other side.

A lady rang me up today to tell me that her green bin was not emptied last week and that she was told by Environmental Services to put it out today. She did as she was told and guess what – it was left un-emptied!

On another road in my ward, I’m told that the refuse cart came up the road (a cul de sac) turned round and left without emptying a single bin!

In parts of Hopwood, people tell me that there were all different colours of bins left out because they had been told to put them out.

The sheer chaos that has ensued today now makes it more compelling for the controlling group to drop this crazy scheme in Heywood. It is time to start listening to people and to stop dictating to them. Fancy and expensive road shows (paid for by Council Tax payers) are no substitute for direct consultation with residents.
