It’s child’s play!

How many times have we heard or used that phrase, meaning something dead simple? It’s not often, though, that we celebrate it and this we did in style in front of the Town Hall for National Play Day. I’m not going to re-invent the wheel, as Online has done an excellent news item on the day (‘Rochdale kids paint the town green!’), but just to say how nice it was for us to take the Deputy Mayoral role and officially open it. That in itself was fun, because although some of the adults were listening to my speech, the kids didn’t take a blind bit of notice and carried on with their play! Thank goodness for that, let them enjoy their simple life before it becomes ordered by protocol. It is also vital, with the invention of computer games entertainment, that kids learn the pleasures of different kinds of activities playing out.
They weren’t backwards at coming forwards as we walked around the site, one even asked if I was the president! Anni was soon sitting down with the under fives and I must also admit that it took very little for me to regress to a table football game. Thanks to the lad who partnered me to a 3:2 victory!
Plans for the future are to tour it round the Townships and I put a marker down for Middleton next year. I hope it comes off.
