Re-cycling ... still too many missed bins!

At Church today the vicar spoke about the need for all of us to do our bit to help save the environment.

One of the most important things we can do is to re-cycle. This has been very much supported by Residents in the Pennines and now in parts of Rochdale and Heywood with the system of alternate weekly collection by the refuse service. It is important that whilst Residents play their part, the Council must ensure that bins and bags are cleared on time as agreed.

Far too many households have not had a good service recently with rubbish not being collected for a month! This weekend I have received complaints about garden refuse not being cleared and residents ringing the Council and being told they will have to wait a further two weeks to have it cleared. This is totally unacceptable, it must improve.

Refuse collection service is the one service many people see as number one priority from the Council and for which they pay a high Council Tax.

I have written to the Portfolio Holder for this service expressing concern and wanting to know what she is doing about it, that letter is still awaiting a reply and was sent over two weeks ago. Unfortunately Cllr Wera Hobhouse appears to remain in denial that there are problems with the service.

It is high time she listened and then acted on the problems Residents are dealing with. I expect nothing less on behalf of all Rochdale Residents.
