Where has our influence gone?

It was depressing to hear the news that Health Services in Rochdale are being downgraded more than in any of our neighbouring towns. This is despite all the hard work and campaigning to save services. Paul Rowen MP, Friends of Our Hospital ably led by Father Nearey, the Council, residents and the Observer Campaign, have all been ignored by the Government.

It seems that from our MP down, Rochdale has no influence with the powers that decide these issues.

It is abundantly clear that we are paying the price for not electing a Labour MP, as all the towns with a Labour Member of Parliament have successfully saved at least some of their services.

However, we must continue to fight Rochdale’s corner. We must all try harder to bring influence to bear where it matters.

It is all too clear that hard work by itself does not bring results, a depressing but sadly, not a surprising outcome!
