Charity doesn't always begin at home

Last Saturday evening along with a party of friends Alan and I enjoyed a super evening at the Mayor's Fund Raising Dinner. The proceeds of the evening went to the Rochdale Childrens Moorland Home. The event raised well over £2000.
Yesterday evening I enjoyed a selection of delicious curries at Veenas in Heywood. The meal and evening were hosted by Farooq in aid of the Bangladeshi Community who are raising funds for the flood victims back home. This also raised in the region of £2000.
On both occassions it was good to relax with friends and councillors of all our political groups. Evenings such as these give you the opportunity to be a 'person first' rather than a 'politician'. Personally I find this refreshing and just wish we could share more in this approach than the frequent back biting we often witness.
Looking forward to tonights buffet at the China Palace and the Rochdale Business Awards.
I really must think about starting that crash diet soon!
