The Golden Mosque

This evening I was priviledged to attend the opening of the fast and prayers in the Golden Mosque at Spotland. This was the first mosque in Rochdale way back in 1964. Alongside this old building can be seen the developing site of what will be a splendid, modern replacement.

The invitation to attend  came from the elders and management of the Mosque who are anxious to integrate within the community. Following our welcome and brief introduction to the Moslem faith we shared in food and observed prayers.

The explanation and interpretation of the prayers  showed how much our religions have in common. It would be wonderful to work together on our common ground rather than fight over our differences.

Events like this help remove the 'mystic' of differing religious beliefs.

Thank you to all who were responsible for organising this evening and I look forward to sharing in many more.
