I do not believe it!

A colleague showed me a copy of a Liberal Democrat Focus delivered in North Middleton. It had the usual graph showing the previous results with a heading ‘only 71 votes needed’. I thought that couldn’t be right and looked at the small print at the bottom: ‘2004 result’.
What a dreadful piece of spin. No wonder people are disillusioned with politics. The figures they showed were ‘Labour 956, Liberal Democrat 885, Conservative 810’ They also failed to point out that we had three candidates to their one and our top result was 1107.
Let me now enlighten you as to what has happened in the subsequent years.
2006 Result:
Labour 811
Liberal Democrat 564
Conservative 475
The gap was then stretched to 247
2007 Result:
Labour 921
Conservative 552
Liberal Democrat 319
The gap is now a massive 602 with the Liberal Democrats being disparagingly rejected down into third place below the Tories, due to the hugely unpopular two weekly bin collections and the Toll Tax which the Liberal Democrat Leader of Rochdale Council voted for. Added to that there is only one Liberal Democrat councillor in Middleton who is never seen at Township meetings or sub committees. Maybe we should steal Liberal Democrat phraseology and say ‘It’s a two horse race, Liberal Democrats cannot win here’
It looks as though they will have to learn that the con tricks of opposition which they practised for years don’t wash now they are in control and having to put our money where their mouth is.
Incidentally, I am still awaiting my day in Court, having three months ago refuted in writing the allegations made by the Liberal Democrats against myself and Terry Linden. Could it be that their solicitors have told them that they haven’t a cat in Hell’s chance of winning and they should drop the case? Surely not!!!!
