11 November

Attended the Remembrance Day ceremony at Rochdale Cenotaph.  All parties and all faiths and many others came together to honour the dead of two World Wars and conflicts before and since.  It was a dignified and moving occasion.  There was a sense of it being the correct day as the silence was held on the 11th hour of the eleventh day of the 11th month.  That it was also a Sunday made it easier for many to be present.

Colonel Sir John Timmins, who was the Lord Lieutenant for Greater Manchester until earlier this year, took the salute.  Both the Mayor and he and others said a few words to a packed grouping at the Transport Club afterwards.
