Cabinet got it right

I would like to thank my Lib Dem colleagues for supporting my recommendations for an average increase of 3.8% to housing revenue rents. This was against the 5.42% that the government had recommended, when they cited the need to be prudent with the Housing Revenue Account.
It’s by keeping the rent increase under inflation and in line with the 3.8% Council Tax increase (the lowest for 11 years) that we acknowledge some of the financial hardships faced by our local tenants. Everyone knows that deprivation is still an issue in our borough and there is no hiding the fact that a lot of this is concentrated on our council estates. Therefore by keeping the rent increase down it will help to control the increasing pressures that people would face it the increases were higher.
Overall I believe that the Council and RBH have managed the costs to the council tenants very well.
