A Primary Example of A Good School!

Last week I had the privilege of visiting All Souls Primary School in Heywood along with Councillors Doreen Brophy-Lee and Malcolm Bruce.

Recently I and my fellow North Ward Councillors had set the school the task of designing our Christmas card to be delivered to over 4,000 households in our ward. The theme was ‘Heywood at Christmas’ and what a great response we had!

The effort that the children put into their designs was unbelievable and I was amazed at the fantastic level of talent on show. The school really does have some budding artists.

Choosing the winning Christmas card design was probably the hardest decision I have taken this year but after much consideration the winner was Lewis Brown aged 9, who had drawn an excellent image of Heywood Town Centre at Christmas.

Our visit to the school was to present young Lewis with a £30 voucher for JD Sports for his winning design and I cannot comment highly enough on the great work that I saw being carried out.

The pupils were impeccably behaved and well mannered – a privilege to the hard work and dedication of their teachers. I am a firm believer that a successful school has to have a dedicated, hard-working and driven Head Teacher and All Souls certainly has that in Mrs Gaynor Rennie.

After my visit, I glanced over this year’s Ofsted report to remind myself of what the inspectors had to say about the school. In every single area of review All Souls received either an Outstanding or Good Grade and after my visit, I really wasn’t surprised.

Keep up the good work. You are a credit to Heywood!
