Devolution in Action

The month of March will see the launch of new Rochdale Township Area Forums in Bamford, Norden and Healey.

With the Township budget set at about £1 million, Area Forums are much the best way for residents and communities to decide their priorities and make sure that they get a fair slice of the devolved money.

In this financial year, Rochdale Township has spent about £550,000 on Highways schemes. This includes road and pavement resurfacing, traffic calming, new pedestrian crossings and yellow lines.

The rest of the money has been split across a number of projects. We have funded 2 litter enforcement wardens to patrol the Town Centre and hotspots across the township. With the police we have funded a big crime prevention ‘Smartwater’ campaign in Kirkholt, which seems to have been successful. We have funded a dozen community groups to provide new activities for 13-18 year olds. And we have started to organise the Rochdale Feel Good Festival, which will take place across the Town Centre from Friday 3rd to Saturday 11th July this summer.

A town is only as good as its people, so please get involved and make local democracy and your Council work.
