Government Sticks Two Fingers Up to Gurkhas

When I was first elected to our council, I was involved in an incident that I later came to regret. In a heated debate, frustrations caused by years of Labour neglect in Heywood got the better of me and I stuck two fingers up to them across the chamber. I was wrong, but the treatment of Gurkhas by this Labour Government is by far the worst symbolic two fingered gesture I have ever come across in my life.
As my colleague, Councillor Malcolm Bruce is always telling me, Gordon Brown is becomingly increasingly curmudgeonly in the way he is running this country and I know that the people of Heywood will not stand for it.
Over the last 200 years, Gurkhas have served Britain throughout the world. During World War Two alone over 45,000 died fighting shoulder to shoulder with us, for the values that we uphold.
The Liberal Democrats have led the campaign for justice for Gurkhas. Today an opposition debate put forward by my party, will discuss the rights of settlement for Gurkhas in Britain. In my opinion, if you are willing to fight for a country you should be entitled to live in it. Hopefully the debate today will force the Government to explain their disgusting betrayal to our brave veterans
Britain has no greater friends than the Gurkhas and they deserve the same terms and conditions as their UK counterparts.
UPDATE: Wed 17:18 Victory for the Gurkhas!!!! Government have suffered a humiliating defeat. MPs voted 267 to 246 in favour of Lib Dem Motion.
