I'd rather go to prison than carry a mandatory ID Card.

The disturbing news that Greater Manchester has been chosen as a pilot of the controversial ID Cards Scheme has not gone down well in Rochdale. This costly scheme that is set to be almost double the initial estimate of £5 Billion needs to be chucked out. Irresponsible, scare-mongering politician show how out of touch they actually are. Dobbin's comments are typical of a career politician desperate to keep happy his Government Paymasters.

He indicates that it could have stopped the IRA Bomb in Manchester. Rubbish and an insult to the injured and business owners so affected by the bomb. Where does this end? Would ID Cards have stopped the 7/7 bombings? No! Would ID Cards have stopped the unthical use of Parliamentary Stationary by using the Parliamentary Stationary of retired or defeated MPs? NO We've often said that the way to tackle crime is by increasing police presence on our streets.

The Government use Greater Manchester as an indicator of public opinion and the time is right to stand up and say NO. We willl not be railroaded into this and no amount of Governmental scare tactics will change my mind. I'd rather go to prison than carry a mandatory ID Card.
