Having pushed for several years to improve train services in our area as a member of the Greater Manchester Integrated Transport Authority and as a Castleton ward councillor, I would like to place on record my thanks to the work done by Paul Rowen MP and Cllr Keith Whitmore, Liberal Democrat Authority Chairman, in succeeding in the introduction of additional carriages on the railway between Rochdale and Manchester.
The incredible overcrowding on the "cattle express" at peak times will now surely be resolved now that Northern have taken action to increase capacity on their peak-time trains going to and from Manchester Victoria. This can only be of benefit to local commuters who pay for a service that until now they haven't received. The situation will continue to be monitored to ensure there are no lapses especially since the closure of "the loop", I will be delighted to hear from commuters and residents about their experiences, which I hope will now be positive.
