Magic Wand, If only ?

Over the last few weeks I have had many phone calls regarding Snow, Ice and missed bins collections, as I know all fellow Councillors also have had.

I also have suffered missed bin collection; Ice & Snow on my estate I have skated and skidded just like everyone else and have like many had to walk in deep snow to make sure my elderly mum is ok as I have for my neighbours.

The whole country has suffered and I know in every Town / Borough / City. The Council has met with the same problem no matter which political party is in power or in charge no one knew the severity of the weather we were getting and the grit we received was limited by the government? None of the silly rumours that Rochdale had sold it to Oldham etc were true.

Rochdale made a decision right at the beginning of this adverse weather to prioritise in keeping our main roads open and they continued to do so throughout yes it has been an inconvenience for us all to not have our bins emptied or our estates / side roads gritted but I give credit to the decision to keep our main roads open and thanks to the team for the long hours and hard work they have put in.

In some cases inconsiderate parking also hampered the gritting wagons which also causes problems for certain Bin Collections in some areas one being my own estate!

I really do not mind anyone phoning or contacting me and have always done my very best to help with any query or concern. But I do object to abusive and rude phone calls which I have had many of over the last few weeks I can’t believe how aggressive some people have been!
I so wished I had a magic wand to shift the snow and empty the bins. But thankfully the rain has shifted the snow and after this week the bin collection will be back to normal.
Sometimes things happen that no one can foresee or control but we have to accept that at the end of the day our problem is so minor compared to the poor people in Haita God Bless them and give them the strength and courage to go on and bless our services for going out to help.
We will get back to normal after next week they will never get that chance.
