Another election over thank goodness!

Well it was a shock result for many of us I personally can’t believe Paul Rowen lost his seat as he was an excellent MP and worked very hard I wish him well and thank him for his honesty and dedication to the Borough of Rochdale.
I was also shocked to lose our Councillor Christine Akram as again Christine worked hard in the Smallbridge & Firgrove Ward we were a team and I will miss her.
Many changes are ahead of us and some difficult times and decisions to be taken, I am pleased we have formed a coalition with the Conservatives shame the Labour group didn’t take up the offer of a three party joint effort to come together for the benefit of the Borough as working together to bring this great Town back to it’s potential is the priority rather than political party antics.
We have always worked this way in the Pennines for the last 3 years I have been Chair of the Pennines all decisions have been taken together no pre- meetings have ever taken place without us all being involved, and it has worked well so I see no reason why a full Council Coalition should work any less at the end of the day we all want the best for our Borough.

I will miss chairing the Pennines Township as I always found every meeting very challenging never really knowing what to expect? But loved every minute of it and will support the new Chair which I am more than happy to hand over to one of our Conservative Councillors as agreed by all of us in the Pennines as I will not be standing for Chair of Pennines this year.

I have decided to stand for Chair of Health Overview & Scrutiny which I am pleased to say I have been voted in and look forward to a challenging year.
It is a major change for all of us but we have an opportunity to work together and we are all willing to make it work for the benefit of our great Borough.
