Well what a fantastic result, Heywoods Queens Park is the best loved green flag park. Warmest congratulations to Sheila Hill and all the volunteers who have worked so hard for so many years to restore the park to its former glory. This is also a fitting retirement tribute to Peter Cunningham who has been so supportive of the "friends" group for a long time. I visited frequently during the school holidays with my grandchildren who were never bored or stuck for something to do and it was interesting to see the park through childrens eyes, and it was a joy in this age of computer games and obese kids to see so many children free to run about safely and thoroughly enjoy themselves. But, of course the park is not just for youngsters dog walkers, bowlers, tennis players etc are all well catered for in the beautiful surroundings. The green gym is very well used by everyone from young teens to the young at heart who benefit greatly from the enjoyable exercise. There is no shortage of seating and the cafe is excellent with that wonderful thing, loos which are clean and cared for. No  wonder then that it won the competition and long may it remain as Heywoods green lung. So well done again to the friends of Queens Park and thank you all for your vision and commitment. Lastly, of course thank you to the grounds maintenance staff who always go the extra mile to keep the park in tip top order.
