Refuse collection

My paper recycling bin was due to be emptied yesterday, but due to the thick snow on our farm track I wasnt optimistic that it would be emptied. On the dot of 8.30am the wagon pulled into the yard catching me by surprise, so much so that I hadnt written a Christmas card or wrapped the Christmas box as I had expected I would have to drop it off at Green Lane. The first bin man got out of the wagon wearing a red tinsel trimmed stetson, short sleeve check shirt and canvas style body warmer and the shortest shorts imaginable. Intrigued, I called him over to give him the aforementioned card and gift and demanded to know what he was doing in such hot weather gear in the snow. "Well, the fancy dress shop had run out of santa suits so we decided to be characters from Broke Back Mountain, we are the gay binmen". I laughed that much I got a stitch in my side, but I still havent made the connection between Christmas and the film but it was great to have a laugh and see that they had really entered into the spirit of festive season. I have always said the rural bin men are great, they have in the past climbed through a window to let me in when I was locked out, and they always ask before taking an apple off the tree!

So thanks for a real good laugh, and a Happy Christmas and good health in 2011 to all the bin men and to everybody reading this diary.
